Obituary Isezaki Jun

Really sad to hear of the passing away of the esteemed Bizen potter Isezaki Jun (1936 – 2026). Isezaki is celebrated for having helped revive the best traditions of Bizen pottery. His work is characterised by the fusion of tradition and innovation, incorporating unique forms and individual flair while utilising the subtle natural texture of Bizen clay and fired finishes. He always advocated that the finest works were the result of a combination of careful design and serendipity, as seen here with this kake hanaire enhanced with decorative hidasuki fire markings that he had mastered.
Isezaki’s commitment to the constant renewal of the Bizen tradition earned him the title of Living National Treasure in 2004.
